PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the season-opening trophy on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck twice in the closing moments to take a shock lead. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to force the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to complete a convincing penalty win.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 years.
